Alton Bowman has been conserving period furniture for over 40 years. From a beginning in classical art training at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia, to auditing courses in wooden artifacts conservation at the Smithsonian Institution, to European Study trips, the goal has always been to improve the quality of the product.

Mr. Bowman is a Professional Associate member of the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works. Based in Washington D C, the AIC is the professional organization for museum and private conservators in the United States.

The AIC provides a Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice for conservators. Alton Bowman Studio is an active participant in these opportunities for sharing and expanding the body of knowledge in this field.
